At Björknäsgymnasiets International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme all subjects are taught in English.

In this programme you study to prepare for university and develop a global mindset that helps you towards universities and careers in Sweden or abroad. All subjects (except languages) are taught in English. Björknäsgymnasiet have licenced and experienced teachers that will guide you on your journey from day one to graduation.

Björknäsgymnasiet is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School and offer the Diploma Programme. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is recognized worldwide for its rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that promotes academic excellence, intercultural understanding and personal development. At the IBDP at Björknäsgymnasiet, students are given the opportunity to develop deep knowledge, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills that are crucial for success both in academic studies at university and in future careers.

Preparatory year (year 1)

During the first year you will study upper secondary courses from the Swedish national curriculum that will be a step on the way to qualify for Swedish universities. You can choose between Modern Languages (German, French or Spanish), or Young Entrepreneurship courses. Additionally, you will attend preparatory courses that will provide whit the necessary knowledge for the coming two years of studies at the IBDP.

• English level 1 and 2
• Psychology level 1
• Pre-IB-courses in chemistry, physics and biology
• History level 1b
• Physical education
• Mathematics level 1c and Pre-IB-math
• Civics/Social Studies level 1b
• Young Entrepreneurship OR Modern Languages (French/German/Spanish)

Years 2 and 3

The IBDP allows you the unique opportunity to tailor your education to your interests and strengths by choosing courses from six different subject groups (Language and Literature, Language acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and Arts). Björknäsgymnasiet offers a wide range of courses to choose from, ensuring that the students receive a broad, balanced and comprehensive education.

In addition to these six subjects you also study three IBDP Core Subjects:

• Extended Essay (EE) : an independent, in-depth, self-directed piece of research on a topic of your own choice
• Theory Of Knowledge (TOK): a course which focuses on critical thinking skills regarding the nature of knowledge and students are encouraged to analyze and evaluate knowledge claims from different disciplines and perspectives.
• Creativity-Activity-Service (CAS): a self-initiated project which provides you with opportunities for personal growth and experimental learning outside of the academic classroom.
• Creativity stands for engaging in activities that promote creative thinking, Activity focuses on physical activity and personal health and Service involves giving back to the community.

All these subjects promote important academic skills such as research skills, communication skills, and time-management skills which make you an attractive candidate for universities and future employers. The IB Diploma is recognized worldwide, which is an advantage for students who plan to pursue higher education or careers internationally.
