IB • International Class

Luleå Gymnasieskolas International Class är en teoretisk utbildning. Du läser kurser från svenska gymnasieskolan men all undervisning sker på engelska.

International class är ett förberedande år för studier vidare inom International Baccalaureate, vilket är en tvåårig gymnasieutbildning. IB-programmet förbereder för högre studier utomlands. Läser du International Class och efterföljande International Baccalaureate genomför du därför tre år på en teoretisk, högskoleförberedande utbildning.

Under de två IB-åren läser du sex ämnen som du själv valt, tre på Higher Level och tre på Standard Level. Valet av ämnen ger dig möjlighet att anpassa utbildningen efter behov och intresse. Förutom ämnesstudier finns även tre kärnkomponenter. En av dem är Theory of Knowledge, ToK, en tvärvetenskaplig kurs som utvecklar ditt kritiska tänkande. Den andra är Extended Essay, EE, en forskningsuppgift som du självständigt utför inom ramen för ett av dina sex ämnen. Den tredje kärnkomponen-ten är CAS, Creativity, Activity and Service. Syftet med CAS är utveckla hela din person.

Examensprov
Examensproven, som äger rum år tre, är skriftliga och gemensamma för IB över hela världen. Innan det är dags för final exams har du fått göra en träningsexamen, mock examinations, som följs av en repetitionsperiod där återkopplingen från mocks naturligtvis är viktig. Utöver examensprov ingår skriftliga uppgifter som du arbetar med under längre tid. Även dessa uppgifter sänds iväg för extern bedömning. I språken ingår även muntlig examination.

Kandidatskola
Luleå gymnasieskola är en kandidatskola* för International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Luleå Gymnasieskola strävar efter att bli en auktoriserad IB-skola. Skolor inom IB delar en gemensam filosofi – ett engagemang för högkvalitativ, utmanande, internationell utbildning – vilket vi tror är viktigt för våra studenter.
* Endast skolor auktoriserade av IB-organisationen kan erbjuda något av dess fyra akademiska program: förskoleprogram (PYP), grundskoleprogram (MYP), Diploma Program (DP) eller karriärrelaterade program (CP). Kandidatstatus är ingen garanti att tillstånd kommer att beviljas.

Vad krävs för att komma in?
För att komma in på programmet krävs, förutom de vanliga kraven för en studieförberedande gymnasieutbildning, även godkända resultat på placeringsprov. Proven testar dina kunskaper inom engelska och matematik.

The International Class at Luleå upper secondary school is a theoretical programme. You study courses from Swedish upper secondary school, but the teaching language is English.

International class is a preparatory year for further studies within the International Baccalaureate, which is a two-year high school education. The IB program prepares for higher studies abroad. If you study International Class and the subsequent International Baccalaureate, you will complete three years of a theoretical, education that will sufficiently prepare you for higher education.

During the two IB years, you study six subjects of your choice, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. The choice of subjects gives you the opportunity to adapt the education to your needs and interests. In addition to subject studies, there are also three core components. One of them is Theory of Knowledge, ToK, an interdisciplinary course that develops your critical thinking. The second is the Extended Essay, EE, a research assignment that you carry out independently within the framework of one of your six subjects. The third core component is CAS, Creativity, Activity and Service. The purpose of CAS is to develop your whole person.

Final exams
The examinations, which take place in year three, are written and mandatory for all IB schools worldwide. Before it’s time for the final exams, you have had to do a training exam, mock examinations, which is followed by a rehearsal period where the feedback from the mocks is naturally important. In addition to the exam, written tasks are included that you work on for a longer period of time. These data are also sent for external assessment. The languages also include an oral examination.

Candidate school
Lulea gymnasieskola is a candidate school* for the Diploma Programme. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
* Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

Requirements
The admission requires, in addition to the usual requirements for a study-preparatory upper secondary education, also passing results on placement tests are required. The tests evaluate your knowledge of English and mathematics.
